PERSECUTION IN MEXICO: “God Called Us Here”

Isaac Santiago, VOM’s Regional Leader for Latin America, and his team are standing with Christians suffering for their faith in Mexico, Colombia and other nations. They are also reaching out to Christians in Latin America who aren’t currently facing persecution, telling them the stories of heroic faith and inviting them into fellowship with persecuted Christians.

Listen as Isaac shares his excitement for VOM’s Spanish resources. These include tools for pastors to share stories with their congregation and next year will also include The Voice of the Martyrs Radio in Espanol. Last month, people all across Latin America also joined in the Hearts of Fire Virtual Event.

In addition to telling the stories of persecuted Christians in Spanish, Isaac is also walking alongside brothers and sisters directly facing persecution.

Mateo and Elena boldly moved to the area to answer Christ’s call; they faced pushback and persecution almost from the first day they arrived. Church Planters Face Unrelenting Pressure

Mateo and Elena are church planters advancing God’s kingdom in Central Mexico. Elena was diagnosed with a rare brain aneurysm that required surgery. However, in the most recent round of tests, the doctors found that the aneurysm had been healed. One even called it a miracle from God. Still, Elena and Mateo continue to face enormous pressure to stop their gospel outreach, including threatening phone calls, an unexplained fire in their house, and spiritual attacks on Elena and their two young daughters. The couple are worried for the safety of their children, even fearing that they could be kidnapped and trafficked. Pray for the physical and spiritual safety of this family and for comfort, wisdom, encouragement and healing as they continue to bear witness for Christ.

Front-line Workers Warned to Stop Evangelizing

Mateo and Elena are church planters in Central Mexico. Their town is in a region known as the “Circle of Silence,” where Christians are routinely opposed by those who follow a syncretistic blend of Catholicism, animism and the occult. The couple has experienced hostility from their community because of their witness for Christ. Their tires have been slashed, their bank accounts have been hacked, and they recently received a threatening note to stop their evangelistic activities: “First warning. You must leave. You may not preach, you or your wife.” Men on motorcycles also threatened them with guns at their front door. The couple has two young daughters, ages 5 and 3, and their older daughter has been bullied at school because of her Christian faith.
