On Sunday, Nov. 2, Khong, 22, missed the church service because he was searching for his stolen motorbike. He did not return, and two days later, his body was found in a nearby rice field. No cause of death has been determined. Khong’s parents, Dan and Tee, wanted to bring the body home for a Christian funeral, but the head of their village refused to allow it unless they paid an exorbitant fee. The owner of the land where the body was found has also demanded a cow for a spirit ceremony to cleanse his land. The fines and ongoing threats and demands are compounding the grief Dan and Tee have experienced. Pray for their comfort and encouragement in this difficult time.

Christian Widow, Family Members Face Threats https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-widow-family-members-face-threats/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 08:07:07 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-widow-family-members-face-threats/ A Christian widow and certain family members are facing expulsion from their village in northern Laos for their faith. Chan, 63, first welcomed the message of the gospel in February 2025, hoping to be healed from liver cancer. She and the four children and two grandchildren who live with her came to faith in Christ on the same day. Physical healing has not come, yet they love the Lord and have continued to grow stronger in their faith, attending worship services every week and listening to Christian radio programs. Though Chan is now in the final stage of liver cancer, the rest of her family and village have cursed and boycotted Chan’s household and are now threatening to expel them from the community. Pray that, as this family perseveres through illness and persecution, they will continue to grow in faith and keep their eyes fixed on Jesus Christ.

Christian Families Attacked, Deprived for Faithfulness to Christ https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-families-attacked-deprived-for-faithfulness-to-christ/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 15:07:07 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-families-attacked-deprived-for-faithfulness-to-christ/ On Oct. 12, 2025, three families in a remote area of Laos were driven from their homes while villagers demolished their houses and confiscated their land and livestock. This attack followed weeks of growing aggression that included the chaining of a local Christian leader, Lom, to a house post for four days; Lom’s family was among those driven from their home. Since the attack, the families have been forced to live under a lean-to in the center of the village, closely watched and prohibited from seeking help. These Christians have been given only small amounts of rice for survival. District church leaders have attempted to provide relief but have been refused entry to the village. Front-line workers report that this is not an isolated incident as Christians in three nearby villages are facing similar threats.

Ostracized Christians Patient But Weary https://www.persecution.com/stories/ostracized-christians-patient-but-weary/ Thu, 23 Oct 2025 07:07:06 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/ostracized-christians-patient-but-weary/ In a village in northern Laos, five Christian families have faced increasing persecution because they will not return to spirit worship. The village head confiscated their family registration books, which contain vital records including birth and marriage certificates, residence permits and education and professional records. This village head has refused to register births, issue marriage licenses and legally register a motorbike. Without registration books, some members have had difficulty getting medical care. The village head also decreed that Christians must be excluded from all village activities. Front-line workers encouraged these brothers and sisters to stay strong in God’s grace and to be patient for his provision. They said, “We are patient, but we are discouraged at times. We are treated very differently in the village. Please keep praying for us to solve this situation.”

Couple Rejected by Parents, Daughter https://www.persecution.com/stories/couple-rejected-by-parents-daughter/ Thu, 02 Oct 2025 07:07:03 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/couple-rejected-by-parents-daughter/ A Laotian couple has been rejected by their family after placing their faith in Christ. Yeaun and his wife, Vanhdee, became followers of Jesus Christ when their three-year-old daughter was healed after a Christian coworker recommended taking her to a church for prayer. They were afraid to follow his advice, but as they listened to an audio Bible the man had given them, they became convinced they should follow Christ. After they placed their trust in Christ, they attended a nearby church and listened to the Bible every day. Yeaun’s parents, uncle and oldest daughter became angry with them. The daughter told them she could not respect them as parents if they follow a foreign religion. Yeaun’s uncle kicked them off the family property, and his mother took back land she had given them. “If you want to keep your faith, then don’t call me mother,” she said. The couple continue to attend church and raise their other daughters to know Jesus.

Christian Love Amid Persecution Draws Family to Christ https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-love-amid-persecution-draws-family-to-christ/ Thu, 18 Sep 2025 07:07:03 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-love-amid-persecution-draws-family-to-christ/ The support of Christians for a deceased believer’s family has drawn his children to Christ. When Jer Sua came to faith in Christ in 2023 at the age of 64, he was already sick, and he died on May 23, 2025. Though it is customary in Lao culture for villagers to collect money to help the deceased’s family, the village chief refused not only the collection but also denied him a burial plot in the cemetery. Because Jer Sua’s illness had depleted his family’s resources, they could not even prepare food for the funeral. However, Christians in the village came alongside the family, giving them rice and money. Jer Sua’s wife was already a Christian, but his son and daughter-in-law, who had no interest in Christianity before, were so moved that they came to a pastor and said, “We saw God’s love through the Christians, and now we want to accept Jesus Christ!” Pray for this family to stay strong in Christ as they continue to face intimidation.

New Christian Faces Harassment in Hometown https://www.persecution.com/stories/new-christian-faces-harassment-in-hometown/ Thu, 14 Aug 2025 07:07:07 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/new-christian-faces-harassment-in-hometown/ A newly Christian woman is facing expulsion from her village because of her faith. ThaoSeng, 51, became a follower of Christ in 2024 through the witness of a cousin she was visiting in another city. When she returned to her hometown a few months later, she remained faithful and worshiped at a church in a nearby village. Her family and the village elders became aware of her new Christian faith and began to persecute her, threatening to kick her out of the village if she would not renounce Jesus Christ. Pray that ThaoSeng will endure, be strong in her faith and find joy in sharing the gospel with her family and neighbors.

Authorities Halt Church Building Effort https://www.persecution.com/stories/authorities-halt-church-building-effort/ Thu, 31 Jul 2025 07:07:02 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/authorities-halt-church-building-effort/ On April 25, 2025, Christians from a minority tribal group in Laos were prevented from constructing a new church building. The 85 members of the church had started building the church’s foundation when the police arrived, told them to stop and drove away the assembled workers with threats of arrest and imprisonment. The pastor and one elder were arrested and deprived of food and water for the day. This encounter with the police left the congregation terrified. Pray for wisdom and provision for these Christians and that they will know how to proceed.

Church Threatened Over “Foreign” Faith https://www.persecution.com/stories/church-threatened-over-foreign-faith/ Thu, 17 Jul 2025 07:07:03 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/church-threatened-over-foreign-faith/ A church in Laos has been told by authorities to stop meeting, and an evangelist has been threatened. When Kane, 28, moved to his wife’s village in a minority area of Laos, he was the only Christian. But he shared his faith with his wife, Mae, and her parents, who came to faith in Christ. They, in turn, became bold witnesses throughout their community. By the end of 2023, 25 Christians gathered for worship each week. The village head tried to stop them, calling Christianity a religion belonging to foreigners, but the church continued to meet. Then, in 2024, the village head and others from the village threw stones at the building and angrily burst in to stop the worship service. Police officers said the Christian faith was not allowed by the Laotian government, church members had to recant, and Kane had to stop evangelizing. The Christians stood firm and have continued to meet, but the authorities have also continued to threaten them.

Christian Mother Kept from Church https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-mother-kept-from-church/ Thu, 03 Jul 2025 07:07:05 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-mother-kept-from-church/ A Christian woman’s husband has attempted to divorce her for her faith and has forcibly prevented her from attending church. Lomg, a 33-year-old mother of four children in Laos, has been under constant pressure from her husband since she began to follow Jesus Christ. In April 2025, he tried to initiate divorce, saying, “I hate her because she believes [in] God.” When the divorce was not granted, Lomg’s husband escalated his efforts to make her recant her faith by taking her and her children out to their remote fields and leaving them there to work and sleep. This isolation from other Christians has left Lomg feeling overwhelmed. She longs to return to church and has asked front-line workers to pray for their family.
