Increasingly, pressure to return to traditional Hinduism in the country has grown as the influence of radical Hindu nationalists has crossed the border from India. Sister Rupa, a Nepali Christian, was beaten and cast out of her home for her faith in Christ. Front-line workers are helping her set up a small clothing business that will also serve as a platform to continue sharing the gospel. Sister Roshani was also rejected by her family for following Jesus. Despite hardship, she has continued to share Christ and disciple others. “Her courage is inspiring,” said a front-line worker. Pray for Christians like Rupa and Roshani in Nepal who remain courageous and faithful even at the cost of opposition and rejection.

Nepal: “Only God Listens” https://www.persecution.com/stories/nepal-only-god-listens/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 16:50:24 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/nepal-only-god-listens/ His cell phone rings. When Brother Matthew answers, it is an angry voice, threatening to kidnap his children and abuse his wife. Radicals in Nepal are angry at his Christian witness and his support for Christians there. Matthew and his family have been forced to move multiple times, to different cities, because of the threats. Yet they boldly continue to serve our persecuted family in Nepal. Brother Matthew says when he sees the suffering other Nepali Christians endure, he doesn’t even feel his own suffering is worth mentioning. You’ll meet this brave Christian brother and learn how to pray for our spiritual family in Nepal this week on VOM Radio.

Three Language Groups to Have Bible for First Time https://www.persecution.com/stories/three-language-groups-to-have-bible-for-first-time/ Thu, 04 Dec 2025 08:07:08 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/three-language-groups-to-have-bible-for-first-time/ Front-line workers in Nepal report that three language groups will soon have Bibles available in print for the first time. Praise the Lord for the years of faithful translation work that have been completed and for the culmination of this work. Pray for the next steps of the printing and distribution of God’s Word to people who have long waited to have it in their own languages. Finally, pray that every Bible produced in these new translations will reach fertile ground and lead to spiritual maturity and church growth among all of Nepal’s people groups.

Christian Wife Stands Firm Despite Continuous Abuse https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-wife-stands-firm-despite-continuous-abuse/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 07:07:13 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/christian-wife-stands-firm-despite-continuous-abuse/ Goma Kunwar has suffered repeated beatings and mistreatment at the hands of her Hindu husband since putting her faith in Christ in 2022. More than once, his attacks have been life-threatening. On Jan. 2, 2024, Goma’s husband beat her badly and attacked her with a sickle, cutting her head so that she required medical treatment. Despite the abuse, Goma does not want to leave the Lord. Pray that she will receive the physical and emotional care she needs; that her husband, Tek Bahadur, will come to faith in Jesus Christ; and that her faithfulness to the Lord will be a testimony to the friends and neighbors who are urging her to give up her faith.

Threatened Pastor Continues Ministry https://www.persecution.com/stories/threatened-pastor-continues-ministry/ Thu, 03 Oct 2024 15:07:08 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/threatened-pastor-continues-ministry/ After a Christmas worship service in December 2023, Pastor Raj Kumar Yadav received a phone call from an unknown person. At first, the caller asked seemingly innocent questions about the celebratory service, and the pastor answered in general terms. Then the person asked how many people were fed cow meat during the meal. The question raised concerns in the pastor’s mind, since Hindus consider cows sacred and have sometimes made trouble by claiming that Christians have slaughtered and eaten cows. The caller then identified himself as the leader of a Hindu extremist group and told the pastor he would kill him within a week. Pastor Raj said that he is not fearful but is taking precautions.

Pastor Protected from Anger of Hindu Monk https://www.persecution.com/stories/pastor-protected-from-anger-of-hindu-monk/ Thu, 05 Sep 2024 07:07:03 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/pastor-protected-from-anger-of-hindu-monk/ During the Christmas season of 2023, Pastor Mahesh Mukhiya encountered a Hindu monk on the street. He was unsure whether he should share the gospel with him, so he prayed in his heart and then finally approached the monk. After hearing about Jesus and Christianity, the monk immediately started shouting, calling others to punish Mahesh. Many people gathered, but most of the villagers recognized Mahesh and told the monk that he was a respected member of the village. Pray for Pastor Mahesh and others boldly sharing the gospel throughout Nepal. Pray also for the salvation of this monk, who is well-known in the region for campaigning against Christians.

Faith Comes by Hearing https://www.persecution.com/stories/faith-comes-by-hearing/ Thu, 29 Aug 2024 07:07:03 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/faith-comes-by-hearing/ Gambir Bahadur Rai thought Jesus was just one of many gods until a pastor gave him an audio Bible. As Gambir listened to the Gospel of John, his heart was transformed, and he became a follower of Christ. He carries the audio Bible with him everywhere, often playing it aloud where others can hear it as well. Gambir is enthusiastic about sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others in his village. He gathers friends and neighbors in a tea shop to share the gospel. When his mouth is tired, he said, he turns on the audio Bible and lets God’s Word speak to the hearts of those around him as it did to his.

Guesthouse Owners Share Christ’s Love https://www.persecution.com/stories/guesthouse-owners-share-christs-love/ Thu, 08 Aug 2024 16:17:31 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/guesthouse-owners-share-christs-love/ 20-year-old Mamata was the only Christian in her remote rural village. Her husband, Krishna, and other family members were strong Hindus, and they pressured her incessantly to leave the Christian faith. When she became pregnant, her pastor arranged for Mamata and Krishna to stay in a Christian guesthouse near the main district hospital when it came time for her to deliver the baby. During their two-week stay, the proprietors cared for Mamata and showed the love of God to her husband. When additional medical treatment was needed, these Christian workers continued to help Mamata and Krishna. Because of the help and love they received from this couple, Krishna and his mother placed their faith in Jesus Christ. A local pastor is providing fellowship to them in their village.

Convict-Turned-Evangelist Evicted, Beaten https://www.persecution.com/stories/convict-turned-evangelist-evicted-beaten/ Thu, 25 Jul 2024 15:07:06 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/convict-turned-evangelist-evicted-beaten/ Bhaluwan Kumar Paiswan was serving a 20-year prison sentence for gang-related crimes when he ended up in a cell with a Christian evangelist. Annoyed at first, he eventually placed his faith in Christ and experienced new joy and peace. When he was released early, he met another evangelist who discipled him, and they began to work together. The church in that village grew to 25 people in a few years with many more showing interest. Bhaluwan’s family was living in the home of an uncle, but this uncle grew angry that Bhaluwan was openly practicing Christianity and kicked them out of the house, forcing the young family to live in a tent by the road. In early 2024, relatives confronted them and severely beat Bhaluwan and his wife, Bina. Bhulawan and Bina continue to be witnesses to the community. They are praying and fasting, growing in their faith and winning others to Christ even amid hardship.

Family Evicted, Beaten for Faithful Witness https://www.persecution.com/stories/family-evicted-beaten-for-faithful-witness/ Thu, 04 Jul 2024 07:07:09 +0000 https://www.persecution.com/stories/family-evicted-beaten-for-faithful-witness/ Jailed as a murderer, Blawan Kumar Paswan had no hope. Then, a Christian in his prison shared the gospel with him. Blawan placed his trust in Jesus Christ and was baptized. A jailer observed the changes in Blawan’s life and recommended early release after he had served 10 years. Blawan returned to his village and dedicated his life to sharing the gospel, but persecution followed. His uncle evicted his family and took their possessions. On December 1, 2023, a group of drunken men beat Blawan and his wife, Bina. They accused the couple of spoiling their culture by preaching about Jesus. Local believers have donated clothes and groceries, and front-line workers have offered to relocate the family, but Blawan refused. “If I leave this place, how can I witness Jesus to these people again, and what will happen to other new believers?” he said. “My family and I are not going to leave this place. They can weaken my body but not my faith.”
