LumosGrab your broom, set your Portkey, or prepare to Apparate!
From July 27-30, 2006, Las Vegas, Nevada is the place to be for
Harry Potter fans near and far as we gather to attend Lumos 2006:
A Harry Potter Symposium. Following our theme of "Back to School,"
We are planning a variety of daytime academic presentations and
panels, including special workshops for educators and librarians.
In the evenings, we'll be having fun with an assortment of activities,
including Water Quidditch, Hogwarts Night Classes, and Live Chess.
Prepare
to be completely immersed in the world of Harry Potter. Our host
hotel will be decorated Hogwarts-style, with a "Great Hall," a "Common
Room" for all houses, and a library for those wishing to emulate
our favorite bushy-haired witch. We'll also enjoy British food and
butterbeer throughout the symposium.
This
event will mark the third such offering to be sponsored by HP Education
Fanon, a non-profit educational organization. The first such event
was Nimbus-2003, which took place in July 2003 in Orlando, Florida.

Yours,

A
HARRY POTTER SYMPOSIUM NIGHT CLASSES AVAILABLE By Tina
If
you've ever wanted to attend Hogwarts, now's your chance! Night
Classes will give Lumos participants the opportunity to study Potions,
Arithmancy, Divination, and much more.
Friday
evening will be dedicated to learning like Hogwarts students do,
albeit in an abbreviated style (no double Potions with Slytherin,
(un)fortunately). Students will attend thirty minute classes in
up to six subjects taught at Hogwarts. Those who follow in Hermione's
footsteps and achieve perfect attendance will be rewarded with a
diploma for their efforts.
Although
no ghosts will be teaching and Professor Snape is otherwise occupied,
our classes promise to be entertaining and educational. Many will
be taught in a workshop format and will require student participation
(points may be deducted if you don't pay attention), so bring your
favorite quill, a ready mind, and all the magic you can muster.
Seeking
Professors
If
your Hogwarts dreams tend more towards teaching and you have a special
talent in magical studies, please read on. Lumos is seeking professors
for our Night Classes. If you are an 'expert' in Arithmancy, Astronomy,
Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures, Defense Against the Dark
Arts, Divination, History of Magic, Potions, or Herbology, please
contact Tina Icenogle, the head of Informal Programming, at informal@lumos2006.org.
More information will appear on the Lumos website in January.
